FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions
General Questions
What is PjBL?
Project-Based Learning (PjBL) is a modern teaching method in which students acquire knowledge and skills through active participation in projects based on real-life problems that are personally meaningful to them. PjBL-based education is a student-centered teaching approach.
Who can participate in PjBL?
PjBL is dedicated to first-cycle full-time students.
How many projects can I participate in?
A student can participate in only one PjBL project during their studies in a given field.
Can PjBL be conducted in English?
Yes, provided that the project is assigned to a program taught in Polish or English and this is stated in the recruitment announcement.
What are the benefits for students participating in the PjBL project?
Participation in the PjBL project primarily offers:
• Practical application of theoretical knowledge
• Cooperation and effective communication within a team
• Creativity and innovative thinking
• Building a portfolio and professional experience
• Greater motivation and commitment to learning
• Better preparation for the job market, including greater flexibility in actions and resilience to challenges
Where can I find information about PjBL?
Information is available at: https://pbl.put.poznan.pl
Who can I contact if I have questions or concerns about PjBL?
If you have any questions or other matters related to PjBL, please contact the PjBL Team at Poznan University of Technology via email at pbl@put.poznan.pl
How will I learn about opportunities to participate in PjBL projects?
Information about opportunities to participate in PjBL projects is communicated to students using selected means of communication, such as the PjBL website, announcements, information meetings, etc.
How many student teams can one supervisor lead during a semester?
An academic teacher may supervise one project team per semester.
How many project teams are planned for the 2025/2026 academic year, and how large are they to be?
One project is planned for each field of study. The project team should consist of 3 to 5 students.
Who chooses the project team leader?
The project team leader is selected from among the students working on the project in the PjBL formula.
Who chooses the leader of the supervisors?
The project supervisors themselves select the leader of the supervisors from among themselves.
Does participation in PjBL program allow for crediting the entire course (lectures, classes, project)?
Only those forms of classes included in the recognition matrix are subject to credit. Other forms, such as lectures or exercises, must be completed by the student in accordance with the study program. The exception are courses in which the program provides for only one form of class (e.g., only a project).
Is there a maximum number of ECTS credits that can be earned within PjBL?
There is no formal limit. However, a reasonable balance should be maintained between the number of ECTS credits and the student’s workload, especially since the project is completed within a single semester. Moreover, any additional student achievements outside the curriculum should also be taken into account.
Can learning outcomes for laboratories or classes be recognized in the PjBL?
Yes, provided that the intended learning outcomes achieved in the laboratory or during the classes correspond to the project tasks. Their compliance and feasibility will be assessed by the dean, who may recommend possible modifications.
Can a PjBL project be dedicated to two study programs?
Yes, this is even preferred, but the leading program should be indicated and the participation of students and supervisors representing both programs should be ensured.
Is the 2025/2026 edition limited to full-time first-cycle students?
Yes. Applications from part-time first-cycle students and from second-cycle students will not be considered.
How will students register for PjBL?
Registration will be carried out via an electronic form available after logging into the PP system. Links to the forms will be provided to students.
Can project funding be supplemented with funds from a PUT unit?
Yes. This does not constitute double funding, as these are internal funds. However, both sources must be included in the project’s financial settlement.
Is it possible to implement a PjBL project without funding (at no cost)?
Yes. However, the project must be submitted together with information on the planned activities requiring no financial expenditure, along with confirmation that their implementation is feasible.
Is remuneration provided for project supervisors?
Yes. Funds for supervisors will be allocated within each project and distributed proportionally to their involvement
Can PjBL classes be included in teaching hours in the future?
Some study programs include projects that may be implemented using the PjBL method. However, the content, scope of student tasks, and appropriate distribution of teaching loads must be agreed upon so as not to increase the overall teaching hours. Future program adjustments may be necessary (e.g., standardizing the semester in which projects are implemented).
Can PjBL results serve as the basis for an engineering thesis?
The learning outcomes required for the completion of an engineering thesis cannot be recognized within the PjBL framework. However, the completed project tasks may serve as a basis for further development within the diploma thesis.
Can PjBL topics be proposed by external socio-economic or industrial partners?
No such dependency was assumed in the current edition. However, cooperation with the environment is permitted provided that there are no additional costs.

Can a PjBL project be carried out individually, or only as a team?
A PjBL project must be carried out as a team consisting of 3 to 5 students.
Is it acceptable to duplicate team membership (the same student listed in multiple submissions)?
No. A student may only be registered for one PjBL project.
Can I attend classes listed in the learning outcome recognition matrix while participating in PjBL?
No, because according to the contract, these forms will be graded based on the project, and the student will be removed from the indicated classes at the beginning of the semester.
Can I withdraw from PjBL? What are the consequences?
Withdrawal of a student from a project within a period not exceeding the first 30% of the classes scheduled for a given semester in the study program results in the need to achieve learning outcomes through standard classes included in the study program.
In the event of a student’s later withdrawal from the project or failure to achieve the intended learning outcomes, it will be necessary to repeat the classes in accordance with university regulations.
Does the grade obtained in PjBL affect the student’s grade point average?
Yes. It affects the GPA in the same way as a grade earned in a course as part of the study program.
Can the recognition of learning outcomes within PjBL apply to courses from semesters other than the one in which the project is conducted?
The recognition of learning outcomes should apply to the semester in which the PjBL project is carried out. In special cases, it may apply to subjects from higher semesters of a given study program.
Is it possible to modify dedicated courses or semesters? Is is possible to change a course or the form of classes within a course?
Yes, as part of consultations between the leader of the supervisors and the dean. It is also permissible to modify the linking of learning outcomes to courses and semesters.
Can the final grade differ among team members?
Yes, because each team member will be assessed individually, based on both project results and their individual level of involvement in the project.
Can I improve my grade for a given form of class or course (learning outcomes) that I received as part of PjBL?
No, because the grade reflects the student’s performance throughout the entire semester and is the result of partial assessments earned on an ongoing basis during the project.
Will additional achievements be included in the diploma supplement?
Yes, training for team leaders in project management and any form of courses taken outside the study program will be entered into the diploma supplement individually for each team member and leader of the project team.
Who enters the PjBL credit/grade into the system?
The dean’s office will enter the credit or grade directly in the USOS system.
. How are students expected to settle project costs, and what deadlines apply?
Students are advised to settle costs on an ongoing basis at the Student Affairs Office. The deadline for final settlements is specified in the schedule (by September 7, 2026).
